Paperless Post

This week I was introduced to the wonder that is Paperless Post.  It is most certainly the next best thing to snail mail.  The site has invitations and cards of all shapes and sizes, completely personalizeable. And the designs are impressive!

wreathmaking

Today, I made my first wreath.
The women in my family were expert wreath makers at one point in time.  This activity usually involved a lot of silk flowers. Not my thing.
But I think this whole concept of living in a house changes my perspective on matters such as wreaths. This weekend, my Nana gave me one of her old wreaths to use on our front door.  She let me borrow her hot glue gun, and I scrounged together some ribbon and a glittery word, and voila...

back door visitors

I opened our back door this afternoon and to my surprise, our little porch was covered with leaves. Covered. This sort of thing doesn't happen in Cypress, Texas or South Louisiana or the other places I have spent most of my falls.  Leaves crunch under my feet when I leave in the morning for work and blow up on the porch to greet me every afternoon, little friends just dropping by for a season.

i'm not very good

at blogging sometimes. I've been slacking, I know. And the server will not let me upload photos at all.
But many things are happening... not the slightest of which is THANKSGIVING in only two days. I get to step back and be grateful for my job
and community
and old friends
and snail mail
and my Nana's cooking
and the smell of her house
and new friends
and stability
and direction
and family
and provision
and my quilt right now.
I love this holiday and all of the memories tied up in it. I love the conversations in kitchens and the big group prayers. I love the turkey butter sandwiches on leftover rolls and the college football match-ups. And, as everyone knows, Thanksgiving is the official bookend of the Christmas season. Which means that Friday will be a day of fluffing trees and decking halls. Cannot wait.

CHEER IS UPON US

today i forgot my umbrella and it poured
but Liz loaned me hers for lunch
and i spilled my pumpkin spice latte all over my car
but it was in a holiday cup.

today was the first day of the holiday cups
which my baristas claimed are scratch-and-sniff
(and even though this is not true
it made my day a little brighter)
